The IDA’s flagship exhibit, the replica Triumphal Arch of Palmyra, will be displayed in Washington D.C. from September 26 – 30 2018. The unveiling ceremony, attended by members of the United States Congressional Committee on Foreign Affairs, will be held at 2:30 PM on September 26th.

Following last year’s successful Syria Fest, the largest ever Syrian cultural festival in the United States, the Syrian Cultural House invites you to join us again for the second annual Syria Fest, a free family-friendly outdoors cultural festival showcasing the beauty of Syria and its people. The Syria Fest will take place on September 2 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.
From the markets of Damascus, the music of Aleppo, the sweets of Hama, and more, the Syria Fest will bring Syrian heritage, culture, and cuisine to the heart of our nation’s capital. The Syria Fest aims to bring friends and family of many different backgrounds together over delectable food, nostalgic musical and dance performances, enlightening cultural discussions, and engaging games and activities for kids. Did you know the Arch of BAAL was scheduled to be in Washington DC, last year?? and it is scheduled to be there this year? I don’t know if it actually was erected last year at the Syria Fest, or if it is actually supposed to be at the Syria Fest this year. However, the IDA (Institue for Digital Archeology) DOES PLAN to bring the BAAL ARCH to Washington, DC, on September 26. They don’t state whether it will be the mini version or the full size. Let’s keep watch and pray!

For the first time ever in the history of the United States, we invite you to join on September 3rd for Syria Fest, a free family-friendly cultural festival showcasing the beauty of Syria and its people.
From the markets of Damascus, the music of Aleppo, the sweets of Hama, and more, Syria Fest will bring Syrian heritage, culture, and cuisine to the heart of our nation’s capital. The festival is organized by the Syrian Cultural House and volunteers.
Knowing that the festival will coincide with the celebration of Eid, one of the happiest times of year in Syria, the Fest’s “Syrian Eid” theme became a central organizing pillar for us. Our goal is to bring friends and family of different backgrounds together over delectable food, nostalgic musical and dance performances, and engaging games and rides for kids.
Our team wanted to capture the heart and spirit of the festival, as well as the history and traditions of Syria, in our tagline. After several conversations, we are excited to share the result of our work!
Syria Fest showcases Syria’s remarkable history and heritage that go back thousands of years
Due to its strategic location in the heart of the Middle East between Asia and Europe, Syria has contributed centuries of culture, art, and civilization to the world. Damascus and Aleppo are among the oldest continuously-inhabited cities in the world, older than Athens and Rome. With its rich history, Syria is home to myriads of ethnic and religious groups, which guests will get to interact with throughout the Syria Fest’s Cultural Tent, kids’ activities, and dance performances.
Syria Fest displays the distinctive culture, diverse traditions, and delectable cuisine of Syria
Syrians are renowned in the Middle East for their expert art and craftwork, passed down for generations. Damask, for example, derives its name from the Arabic word for Damascus ( دمشق), while Syrian pottery techniques, still used to this day, originate from as far back as the 8th century B.C. Each region within Syria specializes in its own distinct dishes of spices and desserts, making for an unforgettable culinary experience.
We’ve organized the festival in such a way that allows guests to take a journey through each region to experience authentic home-cooked Syrian cuisine, original art, handmade artisanal crafts, and family-friendly games and activities all by Syrian-Americans, Syrian immigrants, and recently-arrived Syrian refugees.

When you arrive, you will be greeted with a life-size replica of Palmyra’s Arch of Triumph. When you leave, we hope you will have a newfound appreciation for the centuries-long history and culture of Syria and its diverse and hardworking people who are now a part of America and the DC area.

First Ever Syria Festival in DC (2017)
“The destruction of the ancient city of Palmyra is an affront not only to Syrian Cultural Heritage but to humanity. In 2014, the European Union, in collaboration with UNESCO and other strategic partners, launched the Emergency Safeguarding of the Syrian Heritage Project. Some of the actions taken were the management of the International Observatory of Syria’s Cultural Heritage and the creation of a database of experts and locate available documentation on cultural heritage in Syria in order to create optimal conditions for recovery activities.
Franz Afraim Katzir, Syrian Jewish History, and Culture specialist guided the audience to a history journey to Aleppo, the Mongolian conquer, the Ottoman Empire era, the lives and perils of Safardic Jews and renowned Syrian Jews in the USA such as Paula Abdul and Jerry Seinfeld.
Hundreds of people visited the festival along the day and had the opportunity to have a taste of what this beautiful country is about: twelve thousand years of cultural heritage, pride, love, and art.

Syria FEST Washington, DC- Full size Arch of BAAL – Sept 2018?
(Ok, I have been searching for confirmation that the Arch actually was erected for Syria Fest 2017, and I have not found anything that confirms or denies it. If anyone reading this was in attendance… please let me know if you saw it there.
I also have not seen anything in print stating they plan to erect the Arch there for this year’s Syria Fest. I have sent them an email requesting information on this topic. No Response.
Now, remember that the IDA had planned originally to bring the FULL-SIZE replica to New York and London. But, due to protests from the people they relented and exchanged it for a smaller version of the lesser Arch. It is possible that the people heard they planned to bring the FULL-SIZE Arch to the Syria Fest and they again raised an uproar, causing them once again to relent. )
Institute Cancels Temple of Baal Display for NYC
04-13-2016 Plans to build a giant arch for the Temple of Baal in New York City and London have been canceled.
The Institute for Digital Archaeology had planned to build a 48-foot-tall re-creation of the 2,000-year-old temple entry arch in New York and in London. ISIS destroyed the structure last year in Palmyra, Syria.
Instead, they will model the structure after the Arch of Triumph of Palmyra.
(There is a full-size replica of the ARCH OF BAAL, waiting to be erected somewhere. It may or may not be erected in Washington for this years Syria Fest. Even though it may not be at the Washington DC Syria Fest of 2018… The IDA is planning to erect an ARCH from Palmyra in Washington DC on September 26, 2018.)
