Tiberius Reign As Emperor

Ironically, the death of Drusus, the event that brought Sejanus to power, may have been Sejanus’s own doing. Apparently Sejanus had seduced the wife of the younger Drusus, Livilla, and induced her to become his accomplice in murdering her husband. The evidence is not absolute and has been questioned by many historians, but it was not questioned by Tiberius. In 27 CE, at age 67, Tiberius left Rome to visit some of the southern parts of Italy. En route he paused to go to the island of Capri. His intention appears to have been only to stay for a time, but he never returned to Rome. It is the remaining decade or so of Tiberius’s life that has given rise to the legend of Tiberius the monster. It seems probable, to begin with, that Tiberius, never handsome, had become repulsively ugly. First his skin broke out in blotches, and then his complexion became covered with pus-filled eruptions, exuding a bad smell and causing a good deal of pain. He built himself a dozen villas ringing Capri, with prisons, underground dungeons, torture chambers, and places of execution. He filled his villas with treasure and art objects of every kind and with the enormous retinue appropriate to a Caesar: servants, guards, entertainers, philosophers, astrologers, musicians, and seekers after favour. If the near-contemporary historians are to be believed, his favourite entertainments were cruel and obscene. Even under the most favourable interpretation, he killed ferociously and almost at random. It is probable that by then his mind was disordered.

 

Tiberius and the Heavenly Twins

This paper aims to illustrate the practical application of myth in public life under the early
Principate. It begins by sketching the deep historical affection of the people of Rome for the twins Castor and Pollux, and the great posthumous popularity of Nero Claudius Drusus for generations after his death in 9 B.C. Concentrating on the dedicatory inscription of the Temple of Castor and Pollux in Rome, the paper argues that Tiberius Caesar, notoriously addicted to mythology, crafted a potent public association between the heavenly twins and himself and his brother Drusus, and it goes on to examine the effect of that association.

The story was inspired by two men who became gods, Castor and Pollux. Originally Kastor and Polydeukes, the immensely popular twins of Greek myth were also commonly known as the Dioskouroi, Zeus’ boys, or the Tyndaridai, the sons of their earthly father Tyndaros. The reports of their parentage and birth are complex and contradictory. In some strands, they and their sister, Helen of Troy, were all three the children of Leda and Tyndaros, the King of Sparta; in others, they were the offspring of Leda and Zeus, who had visited the queen in the form of a swan, (Interesting, would that be the BLACK SWAN?) and they may or may not have been hatched from an egg or eggs. (and there we have the OCCULT association with the egg, the “alien” egg.)  But, most importantly, at some point it became established that Polydeukes was, or was potentially, immortal, while Kastor was born to die: possibly because they had different fathers, Zeus and Tyndaros. Each brother had a special talent recognized as early as Homer, for in the Iliad their sister Helen calls them ‘Kastor, breaker of horses, and the strong boxer, Polydeukes’.
The twins were renowned as heroes in two great expeditions, the Calydonian boar hunt and the voyage of the Argo, as well as in a few adventures of their own, but they are best remembered for what happened after their death. Kastor was cut down in a brawl. As he lay dying, Polydeukes prayed to Zeus that he be allowed to die with his brother.
Zeus offered him a choice: either to live forever himself with the gods on Olympus, or
to share Kastor’s fate, alternating with him one day under the earth and one day on Olympus. Polydeukes chose the latter. How this alternation was effected is a matter of ancient debate, essentially over whether the brothers were together in each place for a day or actually exchanged places with each other. But invariably, in literature and in
history, they appear after death as divinities together, and they represent the very incarnation of brotherly love.
Polydeukes’ choice was decisive. Early on the brothers became the saviour gods, soteres, the averters of evil, alexikakoi. Like Herakles, these divinized mortals were great helpers of their fellow man, with two areas of special concern. They were famed as the protectors of sailors especially, and of all travellers by sea: in one version of their story, Zeus placed them among the stars as the Gemini, the heavenly twins, and Poseidon rewarded their brotherly love with command of the winds, whereby they became the saviours of shipwrecked mariners. They also developed an inclination to appear and bring or announce victory in  battle, the most famous instance in Greek history being the Spartan defeat of Athens
at the sea battle of Aegospotami in 405 B.C. On that occasion they materialized as two stars, but normally by land you could recognize them by a handful of particular human attributes: they turned up at critical moments as a pair of beautiful young men mounted on white horses, bearing spears in their hands and wearing on their heads the distinctive pilleus, the half-egg-shaped hat or helmet, often crowned by a star.
Their cult spread from Sparta throughout Greece, and eventually to Sicily and Southern Italy in the West, from where it early established itself in Latium around Rome. Some fifty years ago a bronze tablet was excavated at a temple in the territory of Lavinium which bore the dedication in archaic Latin: ‘Castorei Podlouqueique qurois’, ‘to Castor and Pollux, the kuroi’.
The dating of the tablet to the late sixth century B.C. accords marvellously with the
dramatic entrance of the Dioscuri into Roman history, at the Battle of Lake Regillus,
traditionally assigned to 499 or 496 B.C. According to the common version of this story, at the height of a battle between the Romans and their Latin neighbours, the dictator
Aulus Postumius vowed a temple to Castor and Pollux if they would come to his aid.
They did, and the Romans won. Later that same day two tall and handsome young men, battle-weary and in military gear, appeared at Rome, to wash and water their horses in Lacus Iuturnae, the Pool of Juturna, at the eastern end of the Forum, near the Temple of Vesta. They announced the victory to passers-by before disappearing, and the next day news arrived from the dictator, reporting the details and the divine intervention. Their temple, usually called the Temple of Castor, was erected in the south-eastern corner of the Forum, next to the Pool of Juturna, and it was dedicated by the dictator’s son in 484
B.C. So went the standard (but not necessarily correct) version of the arrival of the heavenly twins in Rome.

Castor and Pollux reappeared in the Forum to announce victories at other crucial moments in Roman history — after the great battles of Pydna (168 B.C.), Vercellae (101 B.C.), and Pharsalus (48 B.C.) — and their temple became one of the focal points of the community by the time of the Late Republic, a meeting-place for the Senate within, a speakers’ platform and voting area without, a centre for debate and riot. Above all, as warriors on horseback the brothers became patrons of the Roman knights who, every year on 15 July, the anniversary of the battle, celebrated a great equestrian parade, the transvectio equitum. Up to 5,000 of them, wearing olive crowns and dressed in purple robes with scarlet stripes, attended the annual sacrifice at the Temple of Mars out on the Via Appia and then rode in procession through the city and the Forum to pass by the Temple of Castor on their way to the Capitol. The temple was also a hub of activity in daily life, a sort of bank and repository of weights and measures, surrounded by various enterprises: cobblers, moneylenders, a cloakmaker, and slave-dealers are attested, and there were certainly taverns nearby. Some twenty-nine shops were actually built into the
podium beneath the temple, one of which was a combination barbershop-beauty
salon-gaming parlour-pharmacy and dentist’s office, where dozens of extracted teeth were
excavated in the 1980s, along with what may be tongue depressors and probes, not to
mention coins, gaming-pieces, jars for unguents, drinking glasses, and cups.7 If the scores
of oaths in Roman comedy are any guide to life in the streets — ‘Ecastor!’ or
‘Mecastor!’, and even more ‘Edepol!’: By Castor! By Pollux! — the twin gods who
presided over this bustle were casually called upon by everyone everywhere. In sum: Castor and Pollux were deeply embedded in the Roman consciousness; they conjured up specific vivid images; and they were very popular indeed.

According to tradition, their ancient temple was dedicated on 27 January 484 B.C. It was restored sometime in the second century; reconstructed in 117 B.C. by the triumphing general L. Caecilius Metellus Delmaticus; repaired to some extent in 74 B.C. by the notorious praetor Gaius Verres; and then rebuilt by Tiberius Caesar and dedicated by him on 27 January A.D. 6, in his own name and that of his brother Drusus, who had died in the autumn of 9 B.C.
Tiberius in fact completely replaced the five-hundred-year-old Temple of Castor in the heart of Rome with a new building dedicated to the immortal twins by two brothers, one by now the co-ruler with, and son and heir apparent of, the Princeps Augustus, the other dead now thirteen years and more. This association of Tiberius and Drusus with Castor and Pollux at the heart of Rome was a brilliant political statement, emotive, even provocative.

Fitting nicely within this display of dynastic concord came the announcement that he would
restore the great temple dedicated to Concordia at the north-western end of the Forum. But
Dio’s account prompts questions. Why choose a structure freighted with uncomfortably
Republican associations, one that commemorated the bloody conclusion of a period of
violent discord, the suppression of Gaius Gracchus and his followers in 121 B.C.? What
‘restoration’ did the temple need, and why did Tiberius in fact then completely rebuild it?
Most curiously, what does Dio mean when he gives as Tiberius’ motive for repairing the
Temple of Concord the arresting ‘so that he might inscribe upon it his own name and that
of Drusus’?
There, on 27 January A.D. 6, he at last dedicated the
great temple in the Forum in his own name and that of Drusus – Tiberius dedicated ‘the Temple of the Dioscuri, upon which he inscribed not only his own name — calling himself Claudianus instead of Claudius, because of his adoption into the family of Augustus — but also that of Drusus’. Castor and Pollux.

On 16 January A.D. 10, the anniversary of the day on which Augustus had received the name ‘Augustus’. Thus Dio, ‘The Temple of Concord was dedicated by Tiberius,  and both his name and that of Drusus, his dead brother, were inscribed upon it.’

28 The Forum now shone with not one but two gleaming and very new versions of its largest temples, overflowing with carefully selected old master paintings and sculptures, all allegedly paid for by the triumphal spoils of two brothers, one of whom had returned from virtual exile less than eight years before, while the other had been dead for seventeen years.29 In short, Tiberius Caesar took immense care to erect two enormous public shrines in the heart of Rome, marble clad, bursting with artworks, that explicitly, in their dedicatory
inscriptions, and implicitly, in the deities whom they honoured, immortalized his
relationship with his brother

Whatever their state of disrepair — each was little more than a century old, and both had been worked on in the intervening years — the essential point is that Tiberius did not repair or restore them: he replaced them, on a larger scale. And the only motive we are given, in the
case of Concord and again from Dio, is that he wanted to inscribe his own and Drusus’
names on it.  His reconstruction of the text reads as follows:

On the left side of the frieze:
[Ti(berius)] C[aesar Augusti f(ilius) Divi n(epos) Claudianus],
[co(n)]s(ul) [iter(um), imp(erator) ter, tribunic(ia) pot(estate) VII, pontif(ex)],
On the right side:

And beneath these, in larger letters, running the entire length of the architrave:
[aedem Pollucis e]t C[asto]r[is incendio consumptam de manubiis r]ef(ecerunt).32
That is, Alföldy suggests that the names and titles of the two dedicators will have appeared
in shallow twin columns, side by side: ‘Tiberius Caesar, son of Augustus, grandson of the god (Julius), Claudianus, consul twice, imperator three times, in the seventh year of his tribunician power, pontifex’, and ‘Nero Claudius, son of Tiberius, Drusus Germanicus, stepson of Augustus, consul, imperator twice, augur’. And along the bottom, in a third line, the dedication concludes ‘rebuilt with their spoils the Temple of Pollux and Castor when it had been destroyed by fire’.

Tiberius (Latin: Tiberius Caesar Dīvī Augustī Fīlius Augustus;

was a Roman Emperor from 14 AD to 37 AD.

 

So why is he on the site?  …The answer is that he was a nyctalope – someone who could see in the dark, someone with night vision.  In Tiberius’s case he only had the ability when he was in a hypnagogic state, but some people have the capability without needing to be in this state.  Although the observation implies it was because he had big eyes, this is not the reason he could do this.  Many people when they are asleep go out of body, and in the out of body state everything is infused with a sort of light, that means that there is no ‘dark’ as such.

This is why some supposedly blind people can ‘see’, they are permanently out of body or receiving spiritual images from the composer on a permanent basis.

Now, this particular article took me in a whole other direction.  We obviously know that this whole business is very related to the Fallen Angels/Demons/Spirits.  This article brings another aspect of that too light.  Before I go into TIGERIUS even further.  I want to look at PALANTIR, the company of origin for the TIGERIUS software.

HOW PETER THIEL’S PALANTIR HELPED THE NSA SPY ON THE WHOLE WORLD

Documents provided by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden reveal Palantir’s role in creating the U.S. government’s international spy machine.

Palantir has never masked its ambitions, in particular the desire to sell its services to the U.S. government — the CIA itself was an early investor in the startup through In-Q-Tel, the agency’s venture capital branch. But Palantir refuses to discuss or even name its government clientele, despite landing “at least $1.2 billion” in federal contracts since 2009, according to an August 2016 report in Politico. The company was last valued at $20 billion and is expected to pursue an IPO in the near future. In a 2012 interview with TechCrunch, while boasting of ties to the intelligence community, Karp said nondisclosure contracts prevent him from speaking about Palantir’s government work.

“Palantir” is generally used interchangeably to refer to both Thiel and Karp’s company and the software that company creates. Its two main products are Palantir Gotham and Palantir Metropolis, more geeky winks from a company whose Tolkien namesake is a type of magical sphere used by the evil lord Sauron to surveil, trick, and threaten his enemies across Middle Earth. While Palantir Metropolis is pegged to quantitative analysis for Wall Street banks and hedge funds, Gotham (formerly Palantir Government) is designed for the needs of intelligence, law enforcement, and homeland security customers. (So, we have banking and Commerce, just like the Temple of Castor under TIGERIUS) Gotham works by importing large reams of “structured” data (like spreadsheets) and “unstructured” data (like images) into one centralized database, where all of the information can be visualized and analyzed in one workspace. (Being able to “see in the dark”, to view and analyze ALL DATA) For example, a 2010 demo showed how Palantir Government could be used to chart the flow of weapons throughout the Middle East by importing disparate data sources like equipment lot numbers, manufacturer data, and the locations of Hezbollah training camps. Palantir’s chief appeal is that it’s not designed to do any single thing in particular, but is flexible and powerful enough to accommodate the requirements of any organization that needs to process large amounts of both personal and abstract data.

Despite all the grandstanding about lucrative, shadowy government contracts, co-founder Karp does not shy away from taking a stand in the debate over government surveillance. In a Forbes profile in 2013, he played privacy lamb, saying, “I didn’t sign up for the government to know when I smoke a joint or have an affair. … We have to find places that we protect away from government so that we can all be the unique and interesting and, in my case, somewhat deviant people we’d like to be.” In that same article, Thiel lays out Palantir’s mission with privacy in mind: to “reduce terrorism while preserving civil liberties.” After the first wave of revelations spurred by the whistleblower Edward Snowden, Palantir was quick to deny that it had any connection to the NSA spy program known as PRISM, which shared an unfortunate code name with one of its own software products. The current iteration of Palantir’s website includes an entire section dedicated to “Privacy & Civil Liberties,” proclaiming the company’s support of both:

Palo Alto:  At Palo Alto Networks, employees are winning the battle against cybersecurity threats. … With a culture that embraces authenticity, collaboration, and ground-breaking innovation, the team at Palo Alto Networks is unlike any other in the world as it protects the digital way of life.   Source

Supposedly: inclusive, innovative, global, military, digital security focused.   But, is it?  Check out the feedback on your own.

They also claim:

Palantir Technologies is a mission-driven company, and a core component of that mission is protecting our fundamental rights to privacy and civil liberties. …

Some argue that society must “balance” freedom and safety, and that in order to better protect ourselves from those who would do us harm, we have to give up some of our liberties. We believe that this is a false choice in many areas. Particularly in the world of data analysis, liberty does not have to be sacrificed to enhance security. Palantir is constantly looking for ways to protect privacy and individual liberty through its technology while enabling the powerful analysis necessary to generate the actionable intelligence that our law enforcement and intelligence agencies need to fulfill their missions.

It’s hard to square this purported commitment to privacy with proof, garnered from documents provided by Edward Snowden, that Palantir has helped expand and accelerate the NSA’s global spy network, which is jointly administered with allied foreign agencies around the world. Notably, the partnership has included building software specifically to facilitate, augment, and accelerate the use of XKEYSCORE, one of the most expansive and potentially intrusive tools in the NSA’s arsenal. According to Snowden  documents published by The Guardian in 2013, XKEYSCORE is by the NSA’s own admission its “widest reaching” program, capturing “nearly everything a typical user does on the internet.” A subsequent report by The Intercept showed that XKEYSCORE’s “collected communications not only include emails, chats, and web-browsing traffic, but also pictures, documents, voice calls, webcam photos, web searches, advertising analytics traffic, social media traffic, botnet traffic, logged keystrokes, computer network exploitation targeting, intercepted username and password pairs, file uploads to online services, Skype sessions, and more.” For the NSA and its global partners, XKEYSCORE makes all of this as searchable as a hotel reservation site.

But how do you make so much data comprehensible for human spies? As the additional documents published with this article demonstrate, Palantir sold its services to make one of the most powerful surveillance systems ever devised even more powerful, bringing clarity and slick visuals to an ocean of surveillance data.

PALANTIR’S RELATIONSHIP WITH government spy agencies appears to date back to at least 2008, when representatives from the U.K.’s signals intelligence agency, Government Communications Headquarters, joined their American peers at VisWeek, an annual data visualization and computing conference organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology. Attendees from throughout government and academia gather to network with members of the private sector at the event, where they compete in teams to solve hypothetical data-based puzzles as part of the Visual Analytics Science and Technology (VAST) Challenge. As described in a document saved by GCHQ, Palantir fielded a team in 2008 and tackled one such scenario using its own software. It was a powerful marketing opportunity at a conference filled with potential buyers.

In the demo, Palantir engineers showed how their software could be used to identify Wikipedia users who belonged to a fictional radical religious sect and graph their social relationships. In Palantir’s pitch, its approach to the VAST Challenge involved using software to enable “many analysts working together [to] truly leverage their collective mind.” The fake scenario’s target, a cartoonishly sinister religious sect called “the Paraiso Movement,” was suspected of a terrorist bombing, but the unmentioned and obvious subtext of the experiment was the fact that such techniques could be applied to de-anonymize and track members of any political or ideological group. Among a litany of other conclusions, Palantir determined the group was prone to violence because its “Manifesto’s intellectual influences include ‘Pancho Villa, Che Guevara, Leon Trotsky, [and] Cuban revolutionary Jose Martí,’ a list of military commanders and revolutionaries with a history of violent actions.”

The delegation from GCHQ returned from VisWeek excited and impressed. In a classified report from those who attended, Palantir’s potential for aiding the spy agency was described in breathless terms. “Palantir are a relatively new Silicon Valley startup who are sponsored by the CIA,” the report began. “They claim to have significant involvement with the US intelligence community, although none yet at NSA.” GCHQ noted that Palantir “has been developed closely internally with intelligence community users (unspecified, but likely to be the CIA given the funding).” The report described Palantir’s demo as “so significant” that it warranted its own entry in GCHQ’s classified internal wiki, calling the software “extremely sophisticated and mature. … We were very impressed. You need to see it to believe it.”

The report conceded, however, that “it would take an enormous effort for an in-house developed GCHQ system to get to the same level of sophistication” as Palantir. The GCHQ briefers also expressed hesitation over the price tag, noting that “adoption would have [a] huge monetary … cost,” and over the implications of essentially outsourcing intelligence analysis software to the private sector, thus making the agency “utterly dependent on a commercial product.” Finally, the report added that “it is possible there may be concerns over security — the company have published a lot of information on their website about how their product is used in intelligence analysis, some of which we feel very uncomfortable about.”

However anxious British intelligence was about Palantir’s self-promotion, the worry must not have lasted very long. Within two years, documents show that at least three members of the “Five Eyes” spy alliance between the United States, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and Canada were employing Palantir to help gather and process data from around the world. Palantir excels at making connections between enormous, separate databases, pulling big buckets of information (call records, IP addresses, financial transactions, names, conversations, travel records) into one centralized heap and visualizing them coherently, thus solving one of the persistent problems of modern intelligence gathering: data overload.

A GCHQ wiki page titled “Visualisation,” outlining different ways “to provide insight into some set of data,” puts succinctly Palantir’s intelligence value:

Palantir is an information management platform for analysis developed by Palantir Technologies. It integrates structured and unstructured data, provides search and discovery capabilities, knowledge management, and collaborative features. The goal is to offer the infrastructure, or ‘full stack,’ that intelligence organizations require for analysis.

Bullet-pointed features of note included a “Graph View,” “Timelining capabilities,” and “Geo View.”

Under the Five Eyes arrangement, member countries collect and pool enormous streams of data and metadata collected through tools like XKEYSCORE, amounting to tens of billions of records. The alliance is constantly devising (or attempting) new, experimental methods of prying data out of closed and private sources, including by hacking into computers and networks in non-Five Eyes countries and infecting them with malware.

A 2011 PowerPoint presentation from GCHQ’s Network Defence Intelligence & Security Team (NDIST) — which, as The Intercept has previously reported, “worked to subvert anti-virus and other security software in order to track users and infiltrate networks” — mentioned Palantir as a tool for processing data gathered in the course of its malware-oriented work. Palantir’s software was described as an “analyst workspace [for] pulling together disparate information and displaying it in novel ways,” and was used closely in conjunction with other intelligence software tools, like the NSA’s notorious XKEYSCORE search system. The novel ways of using Palantir for spying seemed open-ended, even imaginative: A 2010 presentation on the joint NSA-GCHQ “Mastering the Internet” (Mastering the Human Race) surveillance program mentioned the prospect of running Palantir software on “Android handsets” as part of a SIGINT-based “augmented reality” experience. It’s unclear what exactly this means or could even look like.

Above all, these documents depict Palantir’s software as a sort of consolidating agent, allowing Five Eyes analysts to make sense of tremendous amounts of data that might have been otherwise unintelligible or highly time-consuming to digest. In a 2011 presentation to the NSA, classified top secret, an NDIST operative noted the “good collection” of personal data among the Five Eyes alliance but lamented the “poor analytics,” and described the attempt to find new tools for SIGINT analysis, in which it “conducted a review of 14 different systems that might work.” The review considered services from Lockheed Martin and Detica (a subsidiary of BAE Systems) but decided on the up-and-comer from Palo Alto.

Palantir is described as having been funded not only by In-Q-Tel, the CIA’s venture capital branch, but furthermore created “through [an] iterative collaboration between Palantir computer scientists and analysts from various intelligence agencies over the course of nearly three years.” While it’s long been known that Palantir got on its feet with the intelligence community’s money, it has not been previously reported that the intelligence community actually helped build the software. The continuous praise seen in these documents shows that the collaboration paid off. Under the new “Palantir Model,” “data can come from anywhere” and can be “asked whatever the analyst wants.”

Along with Palantir’s ability to pull in “direct XKS Results,” the presentation boasted that the software was already connected to 10 other secret Five Eyes and GCHQ programs and was highly popular among analysts. It even offered testimonials (TWO FACE appears to be a code name for the implementation of Palantir):  (Two Face or JANUS/or the TWINS  GEMINI) 

[Palantir] is the best tool I have ever worked with. It’s intuitive, i.e. idiot-proof, and can do a lot you never even dreamt of doing.

This morning, using TWO FACE rather than XKS to review the activity of the last 3 days. It reduced the initial analysis time by at least 50%.

Enthusiasm runs throughout the PowerPoint: A slide titled “Unexpected Benefits” reads like a marketing brochure, exclaiming that Palantir “interacts with anything!” including Google Earth, and “You can even use it on a iphone or laptop.” The next slide, on “Potential Downsides,” is really more praise in disguise: Palantir “Looks expensive” but “isn’t as expensive as expected.” The answer to “What can’t it do?” is revealing: “However we ask, Palantir answer,” indicating that the collaboration between spies and startup didn’t end with Palantir’s CIA-funded origins, but that the company was willing to create new features for the intelligence community by request.

Does Palantir See Too Much?

The tech giant helps governments and law enforcement decipher vast amounts of data — to mysterious and, some say, dangerous ends.

The company, Palantir Technologies, is named after the seeing stones in J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings.” Its two primary software programs, Gotham and Foundry, gather and process vast quantities of data in order to identify connections, patterns and trends that might elude human analysts. The stated goal of all this “data integration” is to help organizations make better decisions, and many of Palantir’s customers consider its technology to be transformative. Karp claims a loftier ambition, however. “We built our company to support the West,” he says. To that end, Palantir says it does not do business in countries that it considers adversarial to the U.S. and its allies, namely China and Russia. In the company’s early days, Palantir employees, invoking Tolkien, described their mission as “saving the shire.”

The brainchild of Karp’s friend and law-school classmate Peter Thiel, Palantir was founded in 2003. It was seeded in part by In-Q-Tel, the C.I.A.’s venture-capital arm, and the C.I.A. remains a client. Palantir’s technology is rumored to have been used to track down Osama bin Laden — a claim that has never been verified but one that has conferred an enduring mystique on the company. These days, Palantir is used for counterterrorism by a number of Western governments. French intelligence turned to Palantir following the November 2015 terror attacks in Paris. Karp claims that Palantir has helped thwart several attacks, including one or two that he says could have had seismic political consequences. “I believe that Western civilization has rested on our somewhat small shoulders a couple of times in the last 15 years,” he told me in Paris, where he was hosting a conference for Palantir’s corporate clients.

A few months later, the world was being menaced by a novel coronavirus, and Palantir quickly joined that battle against Covid-19: By April, according to the company, approximately a dozen countries were using its technology to track and contain the virus. The speed with which Palantir transitioned to pandemic response ostensibly underscores the flexibility of its software, which can be put to any number of tasks. The U.S. Army uses it for logistics, among other things. The investment bank Credit Suisse uses it to guard against money laundering. The pharmaceutical company Merck K.G.a.A., in Germany, uses it to expedite the development of new drugs. Ferrari Scuderia uses it to try to make its Formula 1 cars faster. To Palantirians, as some call themselves, these myriad applications are just further proof that many problems are data-integration problems.

Yet Palantir’s work on the coronavirus has also highlighted the mistrust that trails the company. In Europe, it is viewed with suspicion because of the C.I.A. connection. But the main source of apprehension is simply the nature of Palantir’s work. Although Palantir claims it does not store or sell client data and has incorporated into its software what it insists are robust privacy controls, those who worry about the sanctity of personal information see Palantir as a particularly malignant avatar of the Big Data revolution. Karp himself doesn’t deny the risk. “Every technology is dangerous,” he says, “including ours.” The fact that the health records of millions of people are now being funneled through Palantir’s software has only added to the unease.

That’s especially true in the United States, where the Department of Health and Human Services is using Palantir’s software to analyze virus-related data. Palantir’s work with H.H.S. has become bound up in the biggest controversy that the company has faced, over its relationship with United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Progressive activists and members of Congress have expressed fear that the information collected by H.H.S. could be used by the Trump administration to expand its immigration crackdown, in which Palantir’s technology has played a part. And the fact that Palantir was awarded a pair of no-bid contracts valued at nearly $25 million by H.H.S. has amplified concerns that it has benefited from Thiel’s support of President Trump. Thiel was one of his most prominent backers in 2016, even speaking at the Republican National Convention.

Since even the owners of the company state that they named it from the JR Tolkien Series, I thought we should look briefly at its namesake.

6,000-year-old ‘telescope’ discovered in Portuguese tombs

The tomb’s design suggests it ‘enhanced what early cultures saw in the night sky’

Astronomers have discovered what they believe could be “the first astronomical observing tool“, used by humans 6,000 years ago to observe the stars.

The tomb’s design suggests it may have “enhanced what early human cultures could see in the night sky” and a single aperture, such as a window or doorway, can affect the observation of stars, the team found.

“The orientations of the tombs may be in alignment with Aldebaran, the brightest star in the constellation of Taurus,” said Fabio Silva, who worked on the project. “To accurately time the first appearance of this star in the season, it is vital to be able to detect stars during twilight.”

“We argue that the restricted viewing through the grave passage out of the passage grave allows the viewer to note the appearance of Aldebaran much earlier,” co-author Daniel Brown told WIRED.
“Here the passage acts to preserve dark adaptation of the eye as twilight during sunrise. Therefore a viewer in the grave would note the star with a brighter sky. So the passage grave act as a viewing enhancement beyond a pure pointer.”

“Our work explores how 6,000-year-old passage graves have helped a viewer to spot stars during twilight conditions. You might say this is the oldest instrument to assist a stone age observer.”

Other ancient tombs had similar functions – an ancient Mayan observatory was recently found to have been used to track Venus and Mars. The building was “a multifunctional facility” that tracked Venus and Mars through doors and windows in the structure.

The sighting of particular stars would have been seen as a seasonal marker, and would also have been perceived as spiritually significant.

The discovery was presented at the National Astronomy Meeting in Nottingham.

(so, you see, the perception of LIGHT is what they manipulate with their telescopes.  You also see that the OBSERVATION OF THE STARS, which are really beings of light, not planets or pieces of rock, is of SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE…. why?  because stars are spirits.  They are the gods people worship.)

The Palantir Philosophy, or “What’s in a Name, Anyway?”

Our name stands for the values of interconnectedness, freedom, and openness that shape the work that we do.

One of the questions we often get asked fairly frequently here at Palantir is the origin and meaning behind our somewhat unusual name.

In popular mythology, the word “palantir” is used to describe a two-way communications device that’s part of an interconnected and decentralized network, much like a single computer on the World Wide Web. The word has its roots in a medieval Latin term that means “openly”, which again, is an appropriate metaphor for the free and open technologies that form both the backbone of the Web and the foundation for the software solutions that we’ve been building since July of 1996.

These values of interconnectedness, freedom, and openness are what drive all of the work we do, from custom software solutions that often involve integration with third party systems to our collaborations with world-class designers on award-winning websites. This “Palantir philosophy” shapes and informs the kinds of projects that we choose to work on and the kinds of clients that we work with, as well as the technology tools that we use.  (Wait now, free an open, that implies that it is available to ANYONE, and so is the data. Right?)

All too often, technology solutions are locked inside a black box, and software vendors use proprietary knowledge to keep customers tied to their products. Our belief is that clients and partners should keep coming back because they want to keep working with us, not because they have to. We believe sharing knowledge and information empowers everyone and ultimately leads to better results, which is why we work exclusively within an open source ecosystem, (now that sounds like an oxymoron.  EXLUSIVELY OPEN?) and have always given our clients full access to the source code of the projects we build for them.

There are all kinds of successful business models out there that work for different kinds of companies, but the Palantir philosophy is the one that has worked best for us for the past 13 years, and we see no reason to mess with success!

Where did zodiac signs come from?

So, though astrology — looking for answers, signs and predictions in the movements of the celestial bodies —isn’t itself a science, there’s a long history of humans looking up at the stars to plan their lives. Farmers used the skies as a calendar as long ago as Ancient Egyptians, when the rising of Sirius, the Dog Star, around mid-July, was seen as a marker of the imminent annual flooding of the Nile. Travelers used the skies as a compass, following the stars to know where to go. And many people used the skies as a source of mystical direction, too.

But who first looked up at the sky to make sense of what was happening down on the ground and why their fellow humans were behaving in certain ways? Exactly who came up with this way of thinking and when is unclear,but historians and astronomers do know a bit about how it got so popular today.

The stars are just one of the many things in the natural world that human beings have turned to for answers over the years.

“We don’t really know who first came up with the idea for looking at things in natureand divining influences on humans,”  (well, we certainly do,  this was one of the “crafts” taught to humans by fallen angels, that is why it is called “divining” because it came from the angels who the people worshiped as gods…divine beings.)says astronomer Sten Odenwald, the director of Citizen Science at the NASA Space Science Education Consortium. (For sure he is not going to tell you the truth.  NASA hates GOD.)“There’s some indication that cave art shows this idea that animals and things can be imbued with some kind of spirit form that then has an influence on you, and if you appease that spirit form, then you will have a successful hunt. (THERE YOU GO…demon worship) That was taken over by the idea of divination, (Again, communing with spirits/divine or fallen angels) where you can actually look at things in nature and study them carefully, such as tea-leaf reading.”  (Divination is forbidden by God because it is about getting your info from demons.)

Some form of astrology shows up in various belief systems in ancient (pagan)cultures.

In Ancient China, noblemen looked at eclipses or sunspots as portents of good or bad times for their emperor, though it’s thought that those signs had less application to the lives of other individuals. (Odenwald points out that in societies where people in the lower classes had less control over their lives, divination could seem pointless.) The Sumarians and Babylonians, by around the middle of the second millennium BC, appeared to have had many divination practices — they looked at spots on the liver and the entrails of animals, for example — and their idea that watching planets and stars was a way to keep track of where gods were in the sky can be traced to The Venus tablet of Ammisaduqa. This tablet, which is dated to the first millennium BC and tracks the motion of Venus, is one of the earliest pieces of what’s been called Babylonian planetary omens. The ancient Egyptians  contributed the idea that patterns of stars made up constellations, through which the sun appears to “move” at a specific times during the year.

It’s thought that all of these ideas came together when Alexander the Great conquered Egypt around 330 BC.

“There must have been a lot of exchange that got the Greeks on-board with the idea of divination using planets,” says Odenwald, and because they were deep into mathematics and logic, they worked out a lot of the rules for how this could work.”

Here’s how NASA has described how that logic led to the creation of the familiar zodiac signs known today:  (LISTEN TO THIS BULLSHIT!)

Imagine a straight line drawn from Earth through the Sun and out into space way beyond our solar system where the stars are. Then, picture Earth following its orbit around the Sun. This imaginary line would rotate, pointing to different stars throughout one complete trip around the Sun — or, one year. All the stars that lie close to the imaginary flat disk swept out by this imaginary line are said to be in the zodiac. The constellations in the zodiac are simply the constellations that this imaginary straight line points to in its year-long journey.

What are the 12 signs of the zodiac?

It was during this Ancient Greek period that the 12 star signs of the zodiac with which many people are likely familiar today — Aries (roughly March 21-April 19), Taurus (April 20-May 20), Gemini (May 21-June 20), Cancer (June 21-July 22), Leo (July 23-Aug. 22), Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22), Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22), Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21), Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21), Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19), Aquarius (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18) and Pisces (Feb. 19 to March 20) — were set down. These Western, or tropical, zodiac signs were named after constellations and matched with dates based on the apparent relationship between their placement in the sky and the sun.

The Babylonians had already divided the zodiac into 12 equal signs by 1500 BC — boasting similar constellation names to the ones familiar today, such as The Great Twins, The Lion, The Scales — and these were later incorporated into Greek divination. The astronomer Ptolemy, author of theTetrabiblos,which became a core book in the history of Western astrology, helped popularize these 12 signs.

What’s the difference between astrology and astronomy?

For centuries, astrology (looking for signs based on the movement of the celestial bodies) was considered basically the same thing as astronomy (the scientific study of those objects). For example, revolutionary 17th-century astronomer Johannes Kepler, who studied the motion of the planets,was at the time considered an astrologer. That changed around the beginning of the Enlightenmentin the late 17th century. (so all those people, throughout history for thousands of years stupid, and it is only in the last few hundred years that we have become so smart?)

Once Sir Isaac Newton basically turned the sky into a calculator, mathematizing the motion of the planets and realizing that gravity controlled everything, Odenwald says, “that started a whole new scientific approach to looking at the sky and the motion of planets and the earth.”

That’s the point at which astronomy came to be known as a science and astrology was acknowledged as not a science.But its popularity relies on factors that numbers can’t compute, and the appeal of looking to the stars for answers has not waned — in fact, in recent years, it seems to have expanded. After all, a 2014 National Science Foundation poll found more than half of millennials think astrology is a science.

And Odenwald argues that, even if astrology’s answers aren’t based on scientific study,the reason people keep turning to the sky does come down to something very real — a psychological phenomenon he calls the human tendency for “self-selection,” the search for interpretations that match what we already hope to be true.  (In other words, people believe what they want to believe.)

“People magnify the positives, they forget the negatives,” he says, “and that’s just how we’re designed.”

The exoteric version of Gemini is two young males united in the bond of brotherhood (unity);their diversity is manifest in their natures: one twin is mortal (Castor) and the other immortal (Pollux):

Which explains why one Gemini twin points to the sky and the other to the earth: “In addition, the boy’s right hand is turned skyward in the classical attitude of celestial invocation, whereas the girl’s left hand is turned downward in chthonic invocation.Thus the children unite the forces of Heaven and the Abyss, the astral spirits and the elemental spirits.” (1000) According to Webster’s dictionary, “chthonic” is a Greek word meaning “in or under the earth… Designating, or relating to gods or spirits of the underworld, esp. gods of the Greeks.”

In the ancient mystery religions, the sacred prostitute served in the temple as a medium between the gods and men. According to The Sacred Prostitute: Eternal Aspect of the Feminine, the union between sacred prostitute, embodiment of the goddess, and king, believed to be a god, reconciled the Microcosm with the Macrocosm.

By looking up, I see down.  Macrocosm and microcosm refers to a vision (or theory) of cosmos where the part (microcosm) reflects the whole (macrocosm) and vice versa. It is a form of recursion which is a feature present in many esoteric models of philosophy, both ancient and modern.^[2] It is closely associated with Hermeticism and underlies practices such as astrology, alchemy and sacred geometry with its premise of “As above, so below“.^[3]

The philosophy was conceptualized by Pythagoras, who saw the cosmos and the body as a harmonious unity.^[4] The idea was re-articulated about a century later by Plato,^[5] and again during the Renaissance, by Leonardo da Vinci, who noted common features between the natural world and the human body such as the circulation of liquids and basic branching mechanisms.^[6]

In modern sociology, the concept of microcosm has been predominantly used to describe a small group of individuals whose behavior is typical of a larger social body encompassing it. A microcosm can be seen as a special kind of epitome. Conversely, a macrocosm is a social body made of smaller compounds. In physics, scale invariance describes the same phenomenon.

The macrocosm-microcosm principal is also a key element to systems theory. An example is how the DNA of a living creature is contained in every cell, and which in turn can be used to determine the genetic make-up of the whole creature.^[7] The concept has also been used specifically in cybernetics. Reji M. Issac of BPC College Piravom claims that through cybernetics it is possible to “generate a key point of microcosm symbol which can reach up to macrocosm world and can explain about its control” and so realise Herbert Brun‘s definition of cybernetics as “a science to cure all temporary truth about eternal triteness“.^[8]

The Theosophical Glossary defines Chthonia as “Chaotic earth”.In Hellenic cosmogony, the Underworld, symbolized by the Moon goddess,is subdued and controlled by the Sun-god: “In the sequence of tarot trumps,the Sun triumphs over the Moon,for it is Sol Invictus (the Invincible Sun), the power of transcendent consciousnessto tame the beasts of the Abyss, the potent and wild forces... Thus Apollo defeated the Python, and brought its powerful chthonic forces under control,but without destroying them, for the Pythia continued to fulfill her function.” (1000)

As ancient oracles were consulted by sages and emperors about strategic matters,Tarot cards are used today for guidance by professional and amateur psychics.Carl Jung, who researched classical oracles, coined the term “archetypes” to describe internal energy sources available to man from the ‘Universal Soul’.Each of the 78 cards of a Tarot deck represents an archetype of one the 78 energies of the ‘collective unconscious’ which is alleged to be present within every human being. The most widely used tarot deck was developed by A. E. Waite (1857-1942), a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and a prolific writer on occultism and magic.The Lovers card in the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot deck represents the Gemini Twins in the sense of a ‘sacred marriage’ between brother and sister. Some esotericists, however, deny that this involves sexual contact:

“Astrologically,The Lovers is principally related to Venus, the goddess of air, and Gemini which, in esoteric astrology, she rules.Importantly, Gemini is also the first sign of relationship in the zodiac;the relationship between siblings…
“The Lovers follows a series of five very important, very powerful cards,three of which are masculine and two feminine. When it appears in a reading therefore, The Lovers can signal some sort of synthesis between the different aspects of male and femalethat each of the previous cards represents.It signifies a sense of challenge, newness, opposition and heightened awareness;and an integration between the powerful forces that have been unleashed and experienced (sometimes unconsciously) to this point…
“The sense of duality inherent in The Lovers is strengthened through its association with Gemini, the sign of The Twins…. According to the myth of Castor and Pollux, the story behind the constellation of Gemini,when the mortal Castor died, his immortal twin brother Pollux begged his father to let him join Castor in the Underworld.His father Zeus agreed, on the proviso that they spent half their time in the Underworld and half in the heavens.
“…Gemini draws our attention to the importance of sibling relationships, and to their powerful impact on the patterning of all our relationships with friends and lovers. The two lovers in the Waite-Smith deck represent…an arrangement of the brother-sister pair; one aspect of which is the ‘sacred marriage’,the marriage between brother and sister.The ‘sacred marriage’ of The Lovers really represents a relationship of equality between two individuals,a type of relationship that is largely absent from the Major Arcana.” (851)  

Twin Gates

 

The Gates of the Sun are twin gates or pillars which stand in the Milky Way and connect the earth with the heavens. Cancer and Capricorn, the solstices, were once the Gates of the Sun and, as such, they represented opposites. However, now the Gates of the Sun are Gemini and Sagittarius which are the equinoxes, thereby representing equality and equilibrium as opposed than diversity and disharmony, typified by the solstices, Cancer and Capricorn. This progression from Cancer/Capricorn to Gemini/Sagittarius signifies that whatever used to be opposites are now equals.  In other words, discarnate souls which once incarnated into bodies in the sign of Cancer as opposites (division of sexes) now enter into incarnation in Gemini as androgynes.

 

The Twin Pillars of Jachin and Boaz are symbols of the Gates of the Sun which connect the earth to the heavens. A Masonic book published in 1855 titled The Historical Landmarks and Other Evidences of Freemasonry provides evidence that the Gates of the Sun are presently at the equinoxes:

“‘The [Masonic] lodge is a representation of King Solomon’s Temple and the Temple was calculated to symbolize the maternal human body, wherein the candidate must enter to be born again. …a Masonic book, The Historical Landmarks and Other Evidences of Freemasonry, declares… ‘The two pillars…represent two imaginary columns, supposed to be placed at the equinoces (sic) to support the heavens… The one on the left is called Boaz, and indicates Osiris, or the sun, the one on the right is called Jachin, and designates Isis, the symbol both of the earth and its productions, and of the moon.'” (39:338-9)

It is due to the precession of the equinoxes that the Gates of the Gods, which were Cancer and Capricorn in the Age of Aries, became Gemini and Sagittarius in our present Age of Pisces. Albert Pike stated in Morals and Dogma that it is through these gates that souls ascend from earth to heaven.

“The Galaxy, Macrobius says, crosses the Zodiac in two opposite points, Cancer and Capricorn, the tropical points in the sun’s course, ordinarily called the Gates of the Sun. These two tropics, before his time [Aries], corresponded with those constellations, but in his day [Pisces] with Gemini and Sagittarius, in consequence of the precession of the equinoxes; but the signs of the Zodiac remained unchanged; and the Milky Way crossed at the signs Cancer and Capricorn, though not at those constellations.

“Through these gates souls were supposed to descend to earth and re-ascend to Heaven. One, Macrobius says, in his dream of Scipio, was styled the Gate of Men; and the other, the Gate of the Gods. Cancer was the former, because souls descended by it to the earth; and Capricorn the latter, because by it they re-ascended to their seats of immortality, and became Gods.” (155:437-8)

The cover of William Cooper’s book, Behold a Pale Horse, displays a Zodiac Wheel above which there are two riders on horses. One rider is the fourth horseman of the Apocalypse who, personifying death, rides the pale horse of Revelation 6:8: “And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.” 

The other rider ascends towards the sun on a winged horse.“…and Hell followed with him…” The flying horse is in all probability Pegasus, a mythological horse who flew from earth to heaven bearing the thunderbolt of Zeus. Pegasus was produced by the blood of the head of Medusa, the Gorgon, who was slain by Perseus, who was said to have conquered death. Medusa’s ancient symbol was a ceremonial mask that was used by sacred prostitutes to summon the Goddess energy in the sacred marriage rite. Note the masked rider on the pale horse. “The Gemini represent creative Nature (Natura naturans) and created Nature (Natura naturata), and this duality is sometimes illustrated in tales by a being that wears a mask” (48:116)    The cover of Cooper’s book illustrates the esoteric duality of the Gemini Twins, represented as Pegasus, the winged-horse, and the Pale Horse (death). In classical mythology and Romantic literature, Pegasus symbolized man’s ascent to the divine. As Pegasus unfolded the splendor of his wings and soared towards heaven, Gnostics aspire to transcend the material world (through the Gate of the Sun) to the ethereal realm of the Macrocosm.  Preceding that ascent, a process of death occurs as the Microcosm is gradually dissolved.

A final observation: On the Wheel of the Zodiac, the horses are positioned at 11:00 which in the Druidic Zodiac Wheel is Aquarius.

“…Pierre Plantard…[was] deceased on…February 3, 2000…at eleven hours ten minutes.” (375)

THE TWINS ARE REALLY APOLLO AND HERCULES!

APOLLO IS THE ANTICHRIST WHO IS ABOUT TO BE MADE KNOWN ON THE EARTH!  Apollo is the son of ZEUS and Jupiter is the Roman version of the Greek God ZEUS.  JUPITER and SATURN are about to come together in the heavens before the end of this year.  They will not be this close again until 2080.

One of the ways to understand transiting Saturn in the houses is to use the myth of The Twelve Labors of Herculesas an allegory for his journey.  The labors of Hercules are the challenges confronting us during the Saturn transit.  Each of his labors describe the experience we must face at that time but also the gift of knowledge acquired represented by the natal house.

Equating the 12 labors with the 12 signs of the zodiac goes back centuries.  The first mention of this correlation was by Hesiod circa 700 BC and again by Pausanius in the 5^th century BC.    Eventually the Twelve Labors of Hercules were written down in full by Appolororus (180-120 BC).SOURCE

Always remember, these are pagan beliefs.  Not to be accepted or condoned by the Children of GOD.  However, the elite live by this stuff.  So it pays to be aware of what is going on, so that you are not caught unaware.  You should expect some MAJOR events to happen before the end of this year.

Astronomers use the word conjunction to describe meetings of planets and other objects on our sky’s dome. They use the term great conjunction to describe meetings of the two biggest worlds in our solar system, mighty Jupiter and the glorious ringed planet Saturn. The next great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn will be December 21, 2020. That date is, coincidentally, the date of the December solstice. It’ll be the first Jupiter-Saturn conjunction since the year 2000, and the closest Jupiter-Saturn conjunction since 1623, only 14 years after Galileo made his first telescope. At their closest, Jupiter and Saturn will be only 0.1 degree apart. That’s just 1/5 of a full moon diameter.

This extra-close Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in 2020 won’t be matched again until the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction of March 15, 2080.

But don’t wait until December to start watching these worlds. They’re visible tonight and every night – near each other for the rest of 2020 – an appealing and mind-expanding sight!

The moon has swung near Jupiter and Saturn in recent nights and will still be near them on November 20 and 21, 2020, too, as darkness falls. Read more.

In December, just as Jupiter and Saturn are nearly at their closest, the young moon will sweep past them. From December 16-25, 2020, the 2 will be separated by less than a full-moon diameter, just as the moon is passing close. Don’t miss this glorious sight in the western sky after sunset! Jupiter is brighter, outshining Saturn by 12 times. Saturn is respectably bright, shining as brilliantly as a 1st-magnitude star. Read more.

At the 2000 great conjunction, 20 years ago, Jupiter and Saturn were near the sun in our sky and difficult to observe. We’re due for a more observable great conjunction, and we’ll get one. In November, Jupiter and Saturn are noticeable for their nearness to each other, and they are in the sky when darkness falls.

By December, Jupiter and Saturn will still be easily visible. They’ll be, if anything, even more beautiful than now, in the western twilight shortly after sunset.

You’ll recognize Jupiter and Saturn easily, from now through the end of the year. Jupiter is brighter than any star. Saturn is not as bright as Jupiter, but it’s as bright as the brightest stars and shines with a distinctly golden color. Also, Jupiter is near Saturn! Saturn is just to the east of Jupiter on the sky’s dome. Unlike the twinkling stars, Jupiter and Saturn both shine steadily.

This month – during the period when the moon swept past Jupiter and Saturn (about November 16 to November 21) – the two gas giant planets are some 3 degrees apart.

Over the coming month – from November 21 to the day of the conjunction itself, December 21 – Jupiter will travel about 6 degrees and Saturn 3 degrees on the sky’s dome. That movement will mean that Jupiter bridges the 3-degree gap between itself and Saturn.

Bingo! Great conjunction!

Saturn, the sixth planet outward from the sun, is the farthest and slowest-moving planet that we can easily see with the eye alone. Dazzling Jupiter, the fifth planet outward from the sun, is the second-slowest bright planet, after Saturn.

For that reason, Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions are the rarest of bright-planet conjunctions, by virtue of their slow motions in front of the constellations of the zodiac. Saturn takes nearly 30 years to go around the sun full circle whereas Jupiter takes nearly 12 years.

Thus, every 20 years, Jupiter catches up to Saturn as viewed from Earth.

From the years 2000 to 2100 inclusive, as viewed from our planet Earth, these Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions (in ecliptic longitude) happen on these dates:

March 15, 2080
September 18, 2100

Now, here’s why these great Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions happen every 20 years. Each year, Saturn completes about 12 degrees of its orbit around the sun, whereas Jupiter completes about 30 degrees. Therefore, in one year, Jupiter closes the gap between itself and Saturn by about 18 degrees (30 – 12 = 18 degrees).

In a period of 20 years, then, Jupiter gains 360 degrees on Saturn (18 x 20 = 360 degrees), therefore lapping the ringed planet once every 20 years.

So start watching Jupiter and Saturn now! And mark your calendar for the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn on December 21, 2020.

Bottom line: The coming great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn will be December 21, 2020, the day of the December solstice. These two worlds will be closer in our sky than they’ve been since 1623. At their closest, Jupiter and Saturn will be only 0.1 degree apart. That’s just 1/5 of a full moon diameter. Charts and more info here.
